TOWER OF TRINITY

The Tower of Trinity is a design proposal located in the bay of Rio de Janeiro, which is the obligatory approach for aircraft to the city. It is a symbol welcoming visitors arriving Rio de Janeiro by air or sea, serving as a part of Rio de Janeiro's statement in its bid to host the Olympics in 2016.

It aspires to address three concerns: to represent the spirit of the city, to make a welcome statement for visitors, and to express respect for nature. The manifestation is a formation of three arcs rising into a tower. Volumetric forms are supported from the tower arc frames to appear weightless. The tower sits next to the island, leaving the nature uninterrupted, with a long bridge connecting to the highest point of the island.
