The Al Ansar Mosque proposal was prepared for a local design competition. The project aims to rejuvenate the existing mosque with a unique identity that serves as a religious institution as well as a social hub for the Muslim community. The design focuses on the contemporary re-interpretation of the existing icons of the mosque - the dome and the minaret tower. The glass dome induces natural light into the prayer halls to project an illuminating light tunnel effect, and the minaret is interpreted as an illuminating tower calling out to the devotees. The prayer halls are devoid of wall enclosures to allow the landscape and reflecting pools to be part of the prayer experience. Islamic arabesque patterns are utilized to create patterns on the screen walls.　The proposal is a simple yet elegant design in its re-interpretation of the religious abode to reflect its role in the contemporary world.
